Democracy works if everyone participates…I doubt there can be an argument against that
But in view of the fact that Republicans are hell bent on limiting the democratic process by disenfranchising voters, making it more difficult to vote and to register, rigging the electoral college vote apportionment and mandating nearly impossible requirements to vote…we need to go the other way…what we need is to be able to vote by e-mail.
This is clear as municipalities and states are strapped for funds, it would ease the demand for voting places and hours and they can still have local and state elections as they see fit to rig them and to cheat...but nationally, electronic voting is a must.
You might say it could never work because of the possibility of fraud…I say poppy cock…if we can entrust Bank of America with our dough and we are able to successfully do all our banking transactions then the same security precautions could be taken when allowing individuals to vote via e-mail.
We know that by now a great majority of Americans know how to use a computer or other related devices, we know that most people either have a computer at home or at work or have access to one. The idea of the democratic process is that we make it easier for people to vote…not harder.
Who will oversee this operation? Very simple: a bipartisan panel consisting of computer geeks from either party…that way they will keep each other honest.
At this time we need to strengthen democracy, not weaken it; particularly in the aftermath of the unpopular and undemocratic Citizens United Supreme Court decision and the majority of Republican-Teahadists believing that corporations are people.
We should start on this endeavor right away…at least while there is still time for the 2012 elections and I dare Republicans oppose it because then they will not be able to say they are in favor of DEMOCRACY!
