Fairness and participatory democracy are at stake in America
Here is why I think the Republicans will win the Presidency in 2012.
First and foremost the economy is in the dumps and a lot of the American people can’t place the blame on those who created it and are responsible for their misery and the horrible recession we are enduring.
Second: Because the Republicans have not been willing to cooperate to fix the mess they left us and even have used delay tactics, obstructionism and even downright sabotage in order to make Obama a one term President; which according to their own statements is their number one priority.
Third: There are widespread efforts, many of them successful in disenfranchising large blocks of voters by instituting new voting requirements that are either hard or nearly impossible to meet by many of the minorities that have traditionally voted for the Democrats.
Four: There is a new game in town now…the news that the State of Pennsylvania is altering the way the electoral college votes will be awarded almost if not certainly guarantee the Republicans a victory. Under this new gimmick for example even if Obama was to win the popular vote in the state there would be 12 electoral votes automatically awarded to his opponent…this is by all accounts election rigging.
Fifth: The unlimited amounts of funds that have the cloak of anonymity because of the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision will make it possible for the wealthy and corporations to buy air time and confuse and mislead the general public as they have done in the past.
Sixth: I don’t think that the President, the nice man that he is has it in him to fight hard and dirty…the Republicans understand no compromise, they don’t believe in facts, charts, data or any scientific evidence…what matters to them is to institute a theocratic plutocracy in America as prescribed by their ideology…no Federal Government, no regulations, no social safety nets, no entitlement programs and a total abandonment of education.
The outlook for the President is bleak at this point and I am afraid that if a dumb shit like me can actually see his political defeat possible, I am sure that those in those super-right wing think tanks can figure out even more ways in which they can hurt the President.
At the end of the day it is up to the American people to buy into whatever askew and immoral system change Republican-Teahadists are selling and so far they are buying into it.
