2000 was the year of that contentious Presidential election…how soon do we forget

But some of us are still here, alert and feisty, ready to remind everyone of that fiasco.

It should come to no surprise that the brother of the incumbent President was also the Governor of the State of Florida. That in itself leaves a lot of room for speculation about vote counting irregularities and some of the decisions taken by Jeb Bush to disenfranchise a whole shitload of voters.

As it turned out, after a contentious battle for counting and recounting, hanging chards and missing ballot boxes…a parade of a caravan going up and down the state with ballot boxes and a much televised, inconclusive election result…it was deemed inappropriate to continue the recount…thus the contested results went to the Supreme Court…where President Bush won by one vote: ironically that of a black man…Justice Thomas.

We have later found out that Bush received less of the popular vote than Al Gore did and only because of this antiquated, ridiculous Electoral College System we have did he become President. He went on to be inaugurated with a questionable mandate which he turned into complete and total class war, cultural war and embarked upon one of the most destructive economic plans we have seen in any incompetent President of the past…did I mention that he also got us into two stupid wars at a high cost of life and treasure and he lied to get us there?

This is the legacy of President George W. Bush and Dick Cheney…arguably two of the most incompetent, inarticulate and evil men to ever occupy the Executive branch of government. But the most damaging inheritance…or the lack thereof…was that of tax cuts for the rich and the corporations and the elimination of regulations that precipitated an economic crisis complete with a stock market crash and a following recession.

I know that people are trying to pin the blame on President Obama for our economic woes…but look at facts and analyze history…if we are going to play the blame game the Republicans better get used to being the recipients of most of the criticism and own up to their participation in the economic collapse…certainly also to blame for their obstructionism and sabotage of any efforts by President Obama to straighten up this mess and bring us back to full employment and prosperity.

So, if you read this, please try to remember it when you go to cast your ballot; don’t vote for Republicans because you are frustrated with the political process…remember that it is the Republicans that have brought about a dysfunctional Congress….please don’t vote because you lost your job or your home against Obama…he has performed miracles in the face of complete lack of cooperation and even sabotage, obstructionism and even vitriolic disrespect of his persona and the Office of President in the hands of Republicans….the President did not create this mess…the Republicans did and they don’t even have the decency to try to cooperate with the President to fix it because in their book their ideology is more important than the well being of the American people. So don’t reward them with your vote.
