Go figure…and we want to be the leaders of the free world?
It more than common knowledge that the United States has been lagging behind in many areas as compared to other industrialized nations. Health Care and Infrastructure probably are the most noticeable although we are suffering from a decline in public education, trade deficits and labor income stagnation…those are just the tip of the iceberg.
The inability of Teahadist-Republicans to embrace science because of their askew ideology tied to their religious base is a black eye for America. We see how other countries are educating their population to meet the challenges of this new century and these people who want to establish a theocracy only want to take us back to some moment in the dark ages. It is preposterous and it has to stop.
All the while other countries are also making great progress in bringing about rights equality to their LGBT citizens…it is a matter of having the same rights as everyone else but these fucking Evangelicals only see that as a threat to their ideology. Perhaps it is because it exposes homophobia for what it is: an artificial feeling of wrongdoing, inculcated to the followers of these cults and radical religions to motivate them into submission. It is a great way to raise funds for the churches as well.
Here is an interesting bit put out by the White House:
From The White House Blog
By the Numbers: 2 Percent
Posted by Megan Slack on November 02, 2011 at 12:04 PM EDT
“The United States is falling behind on investing in the roads, bridges, airports, and transit systems that keep our economy humming. We spend just 2 percent of our GDP on infrastructure projects. Europe and China invest 5 percent and 9 percent of their respective GDPs on developing infrastructure.
Functioning infrastructure provides a critical backbone for a strong economy. Research shows that investments in creating, maintaining, or expanding transportation networks promote efficiency, productivity, and more rapid economic growth.
Today, President Obama is calling on Congress to pass a piece of the American Jobs Act that will invest $50 billion in our nation’s transportation infrastructure and $10 billion in a National Infrastructure Bank. Together, these initiatives will put hundreds of thousands of construction workers back on the job rebuilding our roads, rails, and runways. With 1.1 million constructions workers out of work, we can’t wait to invest in our infrastructure. “
On the Economy-President Barack Obama, July 22, 2011
"I won’t be satisfied until every American who wants a job can find one, and until workers are getting paychecks that actually pay the bills, until families don’t have to choose between buying groceries and buying medicine, between sending their kids to college and being able to retire in some dignity and some respect."
