This is the way that in most places in America gays are treated.
It reminded me of an incident I had when I was much younger and living in Los Angeles. I was working for Audience Studies, a branch of Columbia Pictures on Sunset Blvd. I finished my shift and headed home.
As I sat on the bus bench waiting to return to my East Los Angeles ghetto, a squad car came to a screeching halt in front of me; two policemen got out of the car, rushed to where I was sitting and knocked me to the ground. One of them put his foot over my neck forcing me to eat the dirt on the floor
while the other one said this: “What are you doing here at this time of night? Don’t you know that your kind is not supposed to be in this neighborhood after hours?”
Of course, in those days maids and gardeners finished at four or five in their Beverly Hills jobs and were gone by seven…Mexicans were not to go outside of their ghetto after hours or they would risk harassment, arrest and even police brutality.
A lot of time has passed and yet as I watch this video it reminds me of those days only this is discrimination against gays rather than against Mexicans. Then I also think of those police attacks on the Occupy Wall Street protestors across the country and I have come to the conclusion that we really haven’t gained any grounds either in race, sexual orientation or being part of the 99%...we are all to stay still while they take away our rights with pepper spray, arrests, brutality and intimidation.
