IT ISN’T ONE MORE CONSPIRACY THEORY…IT IS A CONSPIRACY

“The Family”, the ultra-right wing activists, special interests have been at work for decades.

We can observe certain anomalies in our political system, an amazing redistribution of wealth going from the poor and the middle class to the very rich…we have also seen these behind the scenes organizations pumping untold millions of dollars to elect politicians who hold these Dominionist values.

There hardly is a segment of society these conspirators have not invaded, influenced or completely taken over…from the Supreme Court to the lower Court System. They have put out the bait to big business and the super wealthy and it is simply the prospect of making bigger profits and of course their GREED overwhelms any instinct of compassion or fairness. Frank Schaeffer writes in his recent Alternet piece, “How Republicans and Their Big Business Allies Duped Tens of Millions of Evangelicals into Voting for a Corporate Agenda.” He points this out in his book, the collusion between the Supreme Court and corporate America: With its 2010 ruling that political campaigns could get unlimited corporate funding, the Supreme Court enabled corporate interests, the Republican leadership, and the Tea Party to capitalize on “‘biblically-based’ antigovernment passion.” Read Schaeffer’s Alternet piece for more on what the Bible has to do with the mid-term elections.

For many years now there has been this very interesting structure in Washington, DC where it has been the hotbed of ultra-right conservative legislators who live there and are indoctrinated. This edifice is of no particular architectural redeeming value, it looks like any other row townhouse in the area, but it has housed this secret organization that has been working diligently to institute theocracy in America.

There has taken place a lot of other remarkable movements to help in this quest to make America a Fundamentalist Theocracy; like the creation of PACs and organizations that get involved in politics and donate untold amounts of money to candidates on the extreme right, there are lobbyist groups that do this and there is even a system with an attempt to portray a training camp for Evangelical- Dominionists as a legitimate institution of higher learning; I am talking about Oral Roberts University and others which are by no stretch of the imagination universities nor are they teaching anything other than how to become activists and take over every segment of our society.

The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power [Hardcover]

Jeff Sharlet (Author)

“A journalist's penetrating look at the untold story of christian fundamentalism's most elite organization, a self-described invisible network dedicated to a religion of power for the powerful

They are the Family—fundamentalism's avant-garde, waging spiritual war in the halls of American power and around the globe. They consider themselves the new chosen—congressmen, generals, and foreign dictators who meet in confidential cells, to pray and plan for a "leadership led by God," to be won not by force but through "quiet diplomacy." Their base is a leafy estate overlooking the Potomac in Arlington, Virginia, and Jeff Sharlet is the only journalist to have reported from inside its walls.

The Family is about the other half of American fundamentalist power—not its angry masses, but its sophisticated elites. Sharlet follows the story back to Abraham Vereide, an immigrant preacher who in 1935 organized a small group of businessmen sympathetic to European fascism, fusing the far right with his own polite but authoritarian faith. From that core, Vereide built an international network of fundamentalists who spoke the language of establishment power, a "family" that thrives to this day. In public, they host Prayer Breakfasts; in private, they preach a gospel of "biblical capitalism," military might, and American empire.Show More

Sharlet's discoveries dramatically challenge conventional wisdom about American fundamentalism, revealing its crucial role in the unraveling of the New Deal, the waging of the cold war, and the no-holds-barred economics of globalization. The question Sharlet believes we must ask is not "What do fundamentalists want?" but "What have they already done?"

Part history, part investigative journalism, The Family is a compelling account of how fundamentalism came to be interwoven with American power, a story that stretches from the religious revivals that have shaken this nation from its beginning to fundamentalism's new frontiers. No other book about the right has exposed the Family or revealed its far-reaching impact on democracy, and no future reckoning of American fundamentalism will be able to ignore it.”
