I MUST ADMIT – I DIDN’T SEE THIS COMING

At least not at this point, not so soon

Which gives me a great deal of hope for America because I was under the impression that the general public, the common man, WE THE PEOPLE, were in a lethargic state of aloofness and totally detached from what is going on with these class wars created by the greed of the wealthy.

You see, I thought that these massive demonstrations would eventually materialize once the Teabagger-Republicans had completely taken over the government and systematically eliminated safety nets and public services; but here it is, that hasn’t happened but this grassroots movement, and it is a real grass-roots movement; not like the Tea Party that saw its beginnings from the efforts of special interests by being behind the scenes, funding the early protests that took place in those now infamous town hall meetings; this is different because it is a populist movement, a real, organic, honest to goodness movement to protest the abuses of Wall Street and the Banks.

At first we all thought they didn’t even have a message, the media paid very little attention to it and received hardly any coverage; but it has taken a life of its own and there is even a declaration of what these protests believe and are all about:

WALL STREET PROTEST MANIFESTO

“Eighty years ago, the American economy was in crisis, created by our boom-bust financial system.

Twenty years, some progressive legislation and a global conflict later, we’d managed to balance capitalism with a new social contract, and America became the most productive nation on earth. Workers enjoyed world-class educations, job security, good pay, health care and secure pensions.

The highest tax rate was 90 percent, and the ratio of executive-to-worker pay was 24 to 1. Over the last few decades, the social contract has unraveled. Productivity per work hour has increased dramatically, but workers’ wages have been stagnant, while corporate profits have skyrocketed and executive pay is now hundreds of times the average employee’s. We the people can’t wait 20 years. (And who wants another global conflict?) We do want progressive legislation.

We don’t need to destroy job-creating capitalism. We do need to restore the balance of the social contract so all Americans can help the economy grow.

As one might expect, those on the right are calling them anarchists and anti-capitalists, socialist-Marxist activists, and yet when we look at the participants of these demonstrations we see ordinary people like you and me…mothers with children, blue collar and professional, labor unions and all those in between. It is reminiscent of what went on in Wisconsin and I have news for the Republican-Teahadists, this movement is going to overwhelm all efforts by the right wing agenda.

There is going to be a lot of repression on the part of the New York and other cities’ law enforcement in the meantime; including arrests, pepper spray and brutality in general…the Wall Street and Banking interests will not allow it and that is that…but the movement is numerous and it is going to be useless to suppress it.

I just didn’t see it coming, I didn’t think that the mighty Tea Party would be put out of business so soon.
