There is always something new to discover at Poverello’s Thrift Store. Between the thousands of items that arrive daily from our non-profit partners and individual donations to our seasonal promotions and sales, no two visits are ever the same. With an ever changing selection of used and vintage clothing, household items and collectibles, every day at the Poverello Thrift Store is a treasure hunt.
The store is stocked with clothing for all ages which is organized by size. Other items such as jewelry, accessories, furniture, linens, small appliances, books, music, kitchenware, toys, baby items and collectables are readily available in the store. Anything can turn up at the Poverello Thrift Store, from designer and vintage clothing to unique home décor, that hardcover classic novel you’ve been looking for, and finds from within our vast selection of electronics and small appliances- just about everything you can imagine.
The entire crew of thrift store staff and volunteers take great pride in providing for the customers, so every time that you shop at Poverello, you’ll have no problem finding the items you need at a price that is right for you.
The thrift store operates through the generous donations from Poverello supporters and other community donations. When you donate to the Poverello Thrift store, you do more than offer a new life to your used furniture, clothing or artwork. You help to support the purchase of food for men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS in Broward County, who are clients of the Poverello Food Bank. Donation drop offs are accepted during business hours 7 days a week (Monday – Friday 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM). The drop off point is on the south side of the building, please ring the doorbell. The Poverello Center will also arrange for pick-up of donated household goods, clothing and furniture. To schedule a donation pick-up contact dispatch 954-561-3663, ex-119. Please not that our movers have been authorized to refuse items which are not in salable or good condition. Donation of pick-up items is free. All donations go to support the nutritional need for our clients.
Volunteering with Poverello
Volunteers play a critical role in the success of the Poverello. Many of our volunteers have remained with Poverello for many years. In a friendly, team oriented environment, volunteers gain a sense of personal satisfaction while acquiring valuable retail customer service skills. Currently, there are over 150 active volunteers that work at the thrift store and food bank; and these individuals are honored for their commitment and dedication to the organization. Food Bank
The Poverello Food Bank is always hopping with activity! We are open Monday through Friday from 9:00AM to 3:00PM and Saturdays from 9:00AM to Noon. No culinary experience is needed, just a willingness to pitch in and get the job done. You must be at least 16 years old to volunteer in the Food Bank.

Thrift Store
The Poverello Center services are made possible with the help of hundreds of volunteers who have fun while giving just a few hours on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis. Individuals, schools, social groups, and corporate and faith-based teams contribute in many ways. We would not exist without our incredible volunteers. Can you lend a hand?

racks for transport to the thrift shop

- Office Assistant: Filing, answering phones, faxing, typing documents and letters
- Research Analyst: Conduct web based research on various AIDS related issues and current topics.

At the Annex to the Friends Fitness Center, Poverello offers alternative remedies such as acupuncture, chiropractic and massage therapy practiced by licensed professionals for problems such as neuropathy, suffered by those living with HIV/AIDS. The practice of acupuncture involves the precise placements of needles at meridian points on the body to effect positive physical and mental changes. The Annex also offers both yoga, for physical relaxation and stress reduction, and mediation classes to assist with the spiritual needs of our clients. The requirements for participating in these services are that the client is a resident of Broward County, FL; their HIV status is positive, which is confirmed through a medical release letter from their primary physician that also includes a release to allow the client to perform exercise as well as receive alternative therapies. The medical release form can be obtained at Friends Fitness Center or through the client’s primary physician.
