A lot…a name given to you by your parents can either make your life easier and successful or it can be a bummer.

A lot of people don’t realize the importance of giving a child a name that is not going to represent a problem in the future for them. Some parents attempt to be “cute” and name their children something that to the rest of us is totally ridiculous, not amusing and most often and embarrassment to those who bear it.

I’m thinking of examples and there are plenty…like the Texas Governor whose last name was Hogg and he named his daughters Ima and Yura. Can you imagine such a stupid thing? Well, maybe in Texas it is possible.

There have been many others like for example someone who chose his profession totally in conflict with the name as was the case of San Francisco’s Health Department and Communicable Sexually Transmitted Disease big honcho…his last name was CLAP.

Other people just get some connotation attached to their name. The case of Senator Inoue of Hawaii is a good one because most everyone referred to him as “Senator Ain’t No Way”

HOW TO REMEMBER NAMES

A well known trick to recall people’s names

It is not that I am smarter or have an extraordinary ability to remember names; I learned a long time ago when you are meeting someone to look at them straight in the eyes, shake their hand and if possible, to reassure that person you think they are important enough you bring your other hand to seal the hand-shake.

If they look down or away while shaking your hand, they are not thrilled or interested in meeting you. I have found in my 65 years on this earth that I am right about these people 90% of the time…they are either too shy, have something to hide or not very good persons.

Then as they tell you their name you think of either objects, rhymes or misspelled versions of the name that are either funny or absurd. It works for me…I am well informed but would never be able to remember for example the names of leaders of the world.
