Unlike what the Republicans think, the UN plays a critical role in world diplomacy, peace keeping, hunger and education relief and disaster help.
President George W. Bush appointed the most unlikely and unfit United States Ambassador to the United Nations…this was no accident…the man he appointed held the belief that the United States should get out of the UN. Bush circumvented Senate opposition, sending John Bolton to the United Nations on a recess appointment.
But Bush, in his ever annoying grandstanding to feed red meat to the conservative base…went ahead anyways and appointed this incompetent, warmongering and deranged man. I am sure that many of you have seen bumper stickers like this:
This is more or less the general attitude that the Republican Party has towards that international body. It is unreasonable to think that we could function in a civilized world without an organization like the United Nations…but leave it to Republicans to vilify the UN.
But we should be paying more attention and not allow the fucking conservatives to overtake the narrative and even suggest that the United Nations is evil and a conspiracy to establish a world government.
