It makes not one iota of difference how emphatically Republican-teahadists deny their racism…it is still there.
Oh no, Obama is not black…he is actually green…just look at the greenish tint of his skin! Camouflaged or not, racism is there raising its ugly poisonous snake head out of the basket of ignorance and bigotry. It is there because these are people who for the most part can’t accept change easily – thus their “conservatism” (to conserve, preserve the status quo at all costs)
At first, the opposition to our President was masked in confusion and false accusations, like he’s a socialist-Marxist, a Kenyan Muslim; he will kill your grandma with his death panels and so on. It was hidden in an undercurrent of misinformation and demagoguery. But no more, the Republicans have now come out of their racist closet and openly attack black people…citing misconceptions and prejudices we thought were long extinguished in our society.
ANDREW ROSENTHAL talks about this in Nobody Likes to Talk About It, but It's There (loyalopposition.blogs.nytimes.com)
“Talking about race in American politics is uncomfortable and awkward. But it has to be said: There has been a racist undertone to many of the Republican attacks leveled against President Obama for the last three years, and in this dawning presidential campaign. You can detect this undertone in the level of disrespect for this president that would be unthinkable were he not an African-American. Mr. Obama's election in 2008 was a triumph of American democracy and tolerance. He overcame incredible odds to become the first president of mixed race, the first brown-skinned president. It's pathetic that some Republicans are choosing to toss that milestone into the garbage in their blind drive to destroy Mr. Obama's presidency.”
As if it wasn’t bad enough that most Republican-Teahadists are racists, they are also homophobic, but we also knew that already. It has been the rallying cry and the issue that brings together to frenzy the rabid, extremist right wing base. It is the red meat that the Republican Party feeds them to energize and make them mad enough to motivate them to march right into the voting booth and cast a ballot for the preservation of their bigotry. Yet, that is not where it stops either…the Republicans are against women’s rights and much like the gay issue they use it to pander to the stupidity of Evangelicals.
It just so happens that some of these politicians have been blessed with having some relative…a son or brother or sister that is gay; then the whole nomenclature changes off of a sudden for some. Newt Gingrich being the exception with his sister Candice…he still will not allow her to have equal rights. But you then have a rabid, Reagan worshiping, recalcitrant Cuban Republican like Ileana Ross Lehtinen who happens to have a transgender son and now she is singing a different tune. Ileana is now in the cross hairs of the Tehadists to be knocked off the pedestal she has held in Congress since the Reagan era; and they will replace her with a more radical homophobe. My how time flies when you’re having fun and how things change when you are stricken by the very thing you criticized as Larry Craig, Foley, Ensin, and the list goes on…mostly Republicans.
But he who lives by the sword dies by the sword.
