While I oppose war at almost all lengths, this “dastardly” attack was a perfect example of one instance where war is inevitable.
Today marks that day in history and as ugly as war is, as many of our brave fell dead that day we have to always be grateful for their sacrifice, be in awe for their bravery and most of all keep working towards a lasting peace in the world.
When I look at the stupid reasons man goes to war I can’t help but think how absurd it is that we still have conflicts over religion. Religion has been throughout history the case of more wars and deaths than almost any other motivation. Greed, power and racism pale in comparison to the religious struggles mankind has been involved in.
I see today the rift between Palestinians and Israelis and I can from my detached perch see the flaws of each of their arguments; yes, the Jews suffered horrendous persecution under the Nazis and yet when dealing with the question of Palestine they are perhaps almost as ruthless and sanguinary.
I dare anyone tell me what difference it makes in the long run whether a man wears a little cap on his head and bangs his head against a wall or if he wears a tablecloth on his head and prostrates himself on the floor praying to an imaginary god. Are these differences so important that we have to kill each other?
Conversely, Pearl Harbor was also unnecessary because the Japanese were misled into thinking that they had the right to dominate all the lands bordering the Pacific Ocean…was there a convincing reason, argument or divine inspiration in doing so? Not in the least, they ended up getting obliterated…literally and all for what? A few coconut-populated islands in the Pacific?
Pearl Harbor of course was the result of a military-fascist ambition, an imperialistic endeavor on the part of Japan and it is inexcusable.
