COCONUT TREES GROWING IN WASHINGTON DC – WTF?

We are treading very dangerous grounds when we deny science and climate change

Common sense and reason tells us that if our planet gets warmer the ice caps will melt; it also means that climate change is a reality seeing it as there is no ice on the poles to cool off the planet. The melting of the glaciers and ice caps will produce a rise in the sea levels. Our coastlines will be significantly different than what they are now.

But one scenario that is plausible is that the climate will change so drastically as to allow palm trees to grow as far north as Washington DC or even further north. Of course, we may not have to worry about that since the city of Washington itself will be 5 feet under water because it is located in a marsh and subject to the effects of tides. Unless they build a dyke as the Dutch have done, Washington and many of our coastal population centers will have to be abandoned.

What is ironic about all this is that science denier, climate change eminent threat is not just ignored; it is fought against tooth and nail by the rich and the corporations because it interferes with their ability to make an obscene profit. Climate change is a pesky inconvenience, it is something that they think they can’t worry about or should they give a flying fuck as long as that money keeps pouring in.

As a nation, we are at a crossroads; we are presently involved in a fight for our very existence…that is those of us in the middle class and the working poor. Our governance is dysfunctional and our country divided. People are not just misinformed, aloof and disengaged in the decision making process, they are downright opposed to any measures that will actually save the planet and guarantee the survival of their offspring.

Needless is to say that the fucking Evangelical-Fundamentalists have no stomach for science since it is diametrically opposed to their notions of how the world was created and all the nonsensical crap they believe in…science by means of evidence, fossil records and proven scientific data debunks religious fairy tales.

Are we going to leave to our children and grandchildren a planet that will eventually be uninhabitable? It goes far and beyond our instincts of self preservation…could GREED be more important than our will to survive?
