A TRADITION: WEARING A FRIED EGG ON YOUR HEAD

Why not? Wearing a fried egg on your head is fashionable and tells the world you are prosperous enough to spare the egg and not eat it.

Hold it right there, isn’t that a bit absurd? I mean, wearing a fried egg on your head? After a day or so, it will begin to stink, right? Ok, so you can wear an imitation fried egg instead.

Still, I say: hold on to your whoopees. Wearing a fried egg on your head is not any more offensive, impractical, ridiculous and absurd than wearing a veil, a turban or a skull cap. But these others are justified because it is TRADITION, it is linked to a person’s faith and this is the way they express it, the way they identify with that particular group that also chooses to wear them.

When I hear those hate-spewing Christianists defend the INSTITUTION OF MARRIAGE because it is in the Christian tradition I cringe. You see, you may opt to wear a fried egg on your head, but you can’t make a law that says everyone has to wear one.

If you really think about it, covering your head should only be for the purpose of retaining body heat; the head being the one part of the body that loses a great deal of it. Any other reason to cover your head is either for decoration, for making a fashion statement and joining a conformity trend or to abide by your religion and show your submissiveness.

The same goes for marriage. It is a human right, not a heterosexual privilege. Marriage is a commitment that two human beings make to each other and that is where it should stop…no other qualifications, no rules, regulations or prohibitions. If you are applying religious criteria where your imaginary god sees heterosexuals as preferable, then I say to you: The Creator does not look upon you more favorably if you insert a penis into a vagina.
