THINGS THEY ARE A-CHANGING FOR GAYS

There is a significant amount of acceptance of gays in our society albeit there are still pockets of hatred, discrimination and bullying.

Why do you think that things have improved for gay people and there have been so much ground gained by gays in equality and anti-discrimination?

It used to be that if you had a gay brother/sister, a gay son/daughter it was something that had to be kept secret. Not only was that gay relative subjected to untold discrimination, ridicule and humiliation but as a relative of that person you were also chastised, criticized and at times made you feel that it was either your fault they had this horrible ailment or that as a person close to them you should have done something to prevent them from going into that sinful lifestyle. The mere mention of the word was avoided or done in an inaudible murmur.

The days when being gay was a source of embarrassment and shame to gays and their relatives are almost all gone. It has actually gone the other way: if you are a homophobic Christianist it is thought that the Creator would be a lot more displeased with you than with those who are labeled sinners. There exists a consensus among the majority of Americans that the sin (if you can call it that) is not as egregious and as repugnant as the hatred these Evangelicals display...surely, Jesus would never approve of that.

No more, the sons of bitches that conducted all this vindictive homophobic attacks are under attack now by people like me and millions of others. It is called GAY PRIDE; it works this way…you are what you are and if you are born with a sexual orientation that can’t be changed lest you inflict deep mental distress and damage any prospect at attaining happiness then others have to accept it, they don’t need to approve, they don’t even have to like that which you are doing th, but hell, we are not asking their permission any more, we are not seeking their seal of approval on our sexual orientation but by the same token we are standing steadfast against their efforts to have government do the discrimination for them, to make laws and to treat gay people as second class citizens, the truth is that they want gay people to feel like shit for what they are and they want the government’s help, they want the seal of approval from government for their efforts to discriminate and spew the hatred.

Other than the GOP’s embracing all these homophobes for the reason of pandering to that Evangelical base, there doesn’t exist any logical argument, any damaging evidence that we are a threat to society or to others…quite the contrary, because we can fight in the military and love our country like the best of them, we can hold public office and perhaps be less corruptible than the straight politicians; we can and have also proven that we can enter into long-lasting, loving relationships that should have the same rights and privileges as any other heterosexual union.

That is precisely why the fucking Evangelical-Bible pushers are pissed…they can no longer inflict pain and suffering on us, they can’t legally discriminate or bully us as hard as they may try. We can all understand Eleanor Roosevelt’s saying: “NOBODY CAN HUMILIATE YOU WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT”

I am almost sure that those religious fanatics would say that this is an exaggeration, but if it wasn't true then why would they openly support anti-gay laws in Uganda and other countries? Why indeed?
