DON’T FENCE ME IN

Mankind has been building fences throughout history…it doesn’t work!

Xenophobia is a malaise that has been with mankind all through known history. There are examples and vestiges left that indicate our ancestors resorted to building walls in order to keep adversaries out. In most cases it was not a matter of defense but a crass, racist attempt at keeping homogeneity of the population…it was the inability of mankind to accept others who were different.

I am one who refuses to accept that a person is inferior or superior because that person is born on this or the other side of a body of water…or a man-built fence.

Periodically we also encounter walls being built by societies that are so flawed that people don’t want to stay and live there.

And here is my prediction: Right now the fence along the US-Mexico border is functioning as an impediment to have Mexicans cross to the north. It exists because we have racism in America and the Mexicans represent an inferior race, one that is alien and not in keeping with traditional WASP values.

The issue is: If these ultra-right wing conservatives, Fundamentalist-Evangelicals actually get to control completely our government and establish a theocratic plutocracy there will be millions of people trying to cross the borders to get the hell out of America. Will our southern fence then become the next Berlin wall?

It isn’t difficult to visualize such a scenario where religious intolerance and the Dominionist-Christianists will force their erroneous interpretations of the Scriptures on the rest of us. We will be constantly bombarded by religious messages, signs and propaganda promoting their fucking religion; it will be there at every turn, everywhere you look and those of us who don’t agree with it will be incarcerated or put to death…and make no mistake about that because these Christianists are by far more ruthless and sadistic than their Muslim counterparts. I would venture say that living in America would be tenfold worse than living under Sharia law…Can we forget the Inquisition and the Winston-Salem witch hunts?
