Why do we have to pick between an extreme left tyranny and one to the extreme right?
If you ask me, and if you ask the majority of Americans they would much rather have DEMOCRACY; after all that is precisely what our FOUNDING FATHERS envisioned and propelled the new nation they created to institute; that noble and ancient Greek concept of DEMOCRACY.
But we have seen that this experiment in democratic participation with egalitarian ideals have had its setbacks and oftentimes met with severe opposition. We have had a Civil War and class wars at the beginning of the last century. We had threats from Communism and from Nazism and now it all seems to be returning under the cloak of religious extremism and ultra-right conservatism.
Ayn Rand and her insane view of economics had a very profound effect on Reagan and present day Republican conservatives. The John Birch Society had a lasting and indelible effect on the sons of the elder Koch, and now these two philosophies have both converged to form the NEW REPUBLICAN-TEAHADIST GOP.
Make no mistake about it, both forms of extremist tyrannies are ruthless and ruinous for any country as I can attest after having seen the country of my birth first ravished by a corrupt oligarchy and then by a repressive totalitarian government. The results are similar, the means to gain power are uncannily alike and the ones who suffer are those in the 99% who are excluded from wealth or power or both.

It seems that repression and fear is the glue that holds together both forms of tyrannies.
Are the efforts to muzzle and intimidate Occupy Wall Street a precursor of more right wing oppression?
