s humans we are fascinated by strange facts that make no sense, ideas without reasoning, and explanations that have no logical basis. We need these little mental excursions to keep us alert and thinking; to keep us searching for more answers...

Oftentimes we are lazy and just give up in the endeavor of looking for answers and we tend to embrace somebody else’s explanation all encapsulated and ready for consumption because it is a lot easier that way as is the case with religious faith.

Have you ever thought why….

Dishwashing liquid with real lemon and lemonade with lemon flavor.

Why there is no mouse flavored cat food

Churches with neon signs

Margarine

Making the bed when you’re going to undo it tonight, taking a shower before work when you’re gonna get dirty during the day, eating constantly when you still will be hungry 3 hours later

Keeping a $75,000 car in the driveway and a $5.00 piece of junk in the garage.

The Ryan budget plan

Creationism

Teabaggers who defend the wealthy and don’t have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of.

A second mansion in the Hamptons

Hamburguer and fries with diet soda.

Airlines making an unnecessary stop on an 6 hour flight so they don’t have to serve you a meal.

Trickledown Economics

Halloween

What’s the fuzz about getting a marriage license if an oil company can get a drilling license without paperwork.

Fortune tellers not winning the lottery.

People who say: “What did you say your name was?” My name is still what it is.

White supremacy

Racism

Xenophobia

CHRISTIANISTS GIVE REAL CHRISTIANS A BAD NAME.

And a study reveals that less religious people tend to be more generous than religious ones.

{Posted in America, Deep Thought, Rants on April 25th, 2012 by Scott }
“I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi

Those who at times call themselves Fundamentalist Christians, Evangelicals, Born Again, People of Faith…whatever…these are the very people who are giving the Christian religion a bad name.

It is not surprising that these religious fanatics have introduced themselves and oftentimes bullied their way into every aspect of American life…from education to business, from politics to government. Their resolve is easily explained by the very fact that their religions urge them to go out and proselytize, to convert others, to influence their society every which way they can.

I often say that it doesn’t matter if they have to kill you to convert you. These people must have validation, they have to prove to the whole world that their religions are the one and only and that their views of humanity and society in general are the only valid ones.

Ironically, these are a minority within the Christian majority in America but while the great majority of Christians remains aloof and disconnected…these other ones are working feverishly to take over everything in sight.

I have always suspected that these people who describe themselves as people of faith or Christians are not really all that generous nor are they in the least compassionate as one might expect since the main theme and reason for Christianity is to encourage the practice of the teachings of Christ…these range from compassion to empathy, from generosity to forgiveness, from nurturing to love. These people practice none of these.

Are religious people more moved by compassion than those who described themselves as less religious or non-religious?

A group of scientists at the University of California, Berkeley set out to answer that question and what they found would surprise some: In three experiments, the social scientists found that the less religious were more generous when presented with situations that stimulated their compassion, which the scientists defined as "an emotion felt when people see the suffering of others which then motivates them to help, often at a personal risk or cost."

Here's how Berkeley sums up the study in its press release:

"The results challenge a widespread assumption that acts of generosity and charity are largely driven by feelings of empathy and compassion, researchers said. In the study, the link between compassion and generosity was found to be stronger for those who identified as being non-religious or less religious.
"'Overall, we find that for less religious people, the strength of their emotional connection to another person is critical to whether they will help that person or not,' said UC Berkeley social psychologist Robb Willer, a co-author of the study. 'The more religious, on the other hand, may ground their generosity less in emotion, and more in other factors such as doctrine, a communal identity, or reputational concerns.'"

I have a theory as to why this is the case: when religious people see misery and suffering they tend to pass on the cause as “the will of God” and leave it up to that god to fix it, prevent it or end it. When non-religious people see suffering or misery they are motivated to do something about it because they know that if they don’t no other person or deity will.

In other words, there is a general feeling of futility when it comes to religious people, a train of thought that runs deep and tells them that no matter what they do God will always have the last word or “thy will be done”. (The words, “Thy will be done as it is in heaven,” are taken from the Lord Jesus’ model prayer in Matthew 6:10 and Luke 11:2. )That also explains why these Christianists are not concerned about the future, the fate of their offspring or making any valuable contributions to society or improvements to the country they live in and seem to think that prayer solves all the problems.

Yet, these people’s fanaticism seeks to strip away the rights of the non-religious, women, gays, people of color, the poor and anyone else who is not a member in good standing of their club.  A club which more and more means, simply, white conservative males. But this hateful and hate-filled minority giving the majority of Christians a bad name but they are also tearing away at the fabric of our society and destroying America in the process.

It is very difficult to build a bridge or a highway, educate your children or even take care of others in need if you think the end of the world is going to happen the day after tomorrow.

The findings are published in the latest edition of the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science.

YET WE ARE PUZZLED WHY THERE IS SO MUCH BULLYING AND TEENAGE GAY SUICIDES

This kind of vitriol and hatred is spewed from Christianist church pulpits every Sunday, week after week.

And these bastards claim that they are the ones being persecuted, they claim that it is their God given right to awaken the hatred in their brethren and to actually go out into the world and make discriminatory laws, humiliate a good number of people and get away with it because it is faith based and they have religion freedom in America as it is guaranteed in our Constitution.

In the audio [below] Harris says: “So your little son starts to act a little girlish when he is four years old and instead of squashing that like a cockroach and saying, ‘Man up, son, get that dress off you and get outside and dig a ditch, because that is what boys do,’ you get out the camera and you start taking pictures of Johnny acting like a female and then you upload it to YouTube and everybody laughs about it and the next thing you know, this dude, this kid is acting out childhood fantasies that should have been squashed….Can I make it any clearer? Dads, the second you see your son dropping the limp wrist, you walk over there and crack that wrist. Man up. Give him a good punch. Ok? You are not going to act like that. You were made by God to be a male and you are going to be a male.”

Republicans: it’s not cool to claim the President had Osama bin Laden killed

They say he is making this a political issue…you are damn right it is and he has every right to do so.

WASHINGTON -- Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney called on President Barack Obama to not let the killing of Osama bin Laden become a "politically divisive event."
Romney said Obama can rightfully take credit for bin Laden's downfall. But he said it was "very disappointing for the president to try to make this a political item" by suggesting he wouldn't have ordered the raid, saying, "Of course I would have."
Romney told "CBS This Morning" Tuesday that he and Obama have plenty of issues to fight over without parting company on anti-terrorism strategy.
What is this bitching about? President Obama is not saying anything that isn’t true…he did kill Osama bin Laden and the Republicans are determined to erase that as a factor…minimize it and make it look like it was something any other President would have done...really? Did George W. Bush do it? No…he let him get away when he had the chance to capture or kill him.
But that is not what I find objectionable and odious…it is that the Republicans have gone to great lengths to dehumanize and vilify the President…from calling him a Socialist-Marxist, a secret Muslim and even question his birthplace…and that is acceptable even if it is not true.
I am afraid that the Republicans will just have to live with the fact that our President has been tough on terrorism and very successful in foreign policy…which they claim is “apologetic”

YOU WOULD BE HAPPY IF…

I want to make sure that I’m getting it right…these are the things you want for America, you would be happy if they happened and you are not going to stop your fight until you get them.

1-You would be happy if abortion was illegal…in all cases, no exceptions. You don’t want other people to fornicate so that you don’t want any kind of birth control…all forms of contraception should be illegal.

2-You would be happy as a pig in shit if Creationism is taught in our schools, revisionist Texas style history as well. You don’t want any separation of church and state…to you the church and religion comes first and it is the state that has to bend to the will of the church and serve it as its surrogate.

3-You don’t particularly like racial diversity and if you had your way people of different races should not intermarry…For some reason or another, in the back of your mind you think that white people are somehow superior or preferable.

4-You think that homosexuality is such an abomination that it ought to be criminalized. Of course same sex marriage is out of the question and you would have a Constitutional amendment specifying that marriage should be only between a man and a woman and that it is legal to fire an employee if the company or boss finds out the employee is homosexual. You don’t even want anybody to use the word “GAY” in a public venue…be it school or government…this abomination should be relegated to a word in the same category as profanity.

5-You don’t like labor unions because you think that the members of unions when they pay a membership fee that money is used for political campaigns that he/she may not agree with. But most of all you oppose unions because you think that the free market is somehow compromised interfered with and it is not in line with the concept of pure capitalism.

6-You oppose public education and you don’t think that it is the role of government to fund public schools…schools should be private or home schooling done. As a matter of fact you don’t really value education all that much…no, those schools and universities are only producing leftist radical liberals and our society would be better off without them.

7-You don’t think that there is a healthcare crisis in America…just the opposite…you think that America has the best healthcare in the world and we should just leave it like it is and not convert it into some socialist, European or Canadian kind of socialist entity.

8-You are not particularly fond of science either…let’s face it science has been a thorn on your side ever since they came up with this evolution shit and they have been cramming down your throat the idea that the world wasn’t made in six days or that we didn't come from simians…or that there is a threat lurking in the future about climate change…which is a hoax. And you insist that Armageddon is upon us.

9-You don’t think that Welfare, Medicare, Medicaid should even exist…everyone has to be responsible for themselves and pick yourself up by your bootstraps instead of being a public burden. You don’t even like Social Security…because if you save for your old age you should have your money invested in the stock market where it belongs.

10-You think that America doesn’t have to apologize to other nations for our wrongdoing, for our interfering with their internal affairs; you think it is dandy to invade another country that hasn’t attacked us or rendered us any harm.

11-You believe it is your Constitutional right to own deadly weapons…no limits or regulations…if you want to own semi-automatic weapons, a tank, a bazooka, a machine gun or an aircraft carrier…by God, that is your given right guaranteed in the Constitution.

12- You don’t think that the wealthy and the corporations ought to pay any taxes…after all they are the job creators and if you tax them they will not be able to provide for more jobs.

So that if you are one or more of these things that makes you:

1-Against women’s right to choose

2-Fundamentalist Christianist in favor of a theocracy.

3-Racist, xenophobic supremacist.

4-Homophobic

5-Against organized labor

6-Education is overrated, intellectual pursuit is for the elite and academic excellence is not important.

7-You are healthy and or have a lot of money to pay for your healthcare.

8- You are a climate change denier.

9-You are devoid of compassion, insensitive and not a very good Christian.

10-You are a warmonger with a false idea of what patriotism is.

11-If you like weapons so much it might be because a) you haven’t had a relative killed by guns, b) you are not in law enforcement, or, c) you have a very small penis.

12- You must be very wealthy.

IN OTHER WORDS BUCKO…YOU ARE A FUCKING REPUBLICAN!
The America you want is one we don’t want to live in.

OURS IS A DYSFUNCTIONAL SOCIETY WITHIN A DIVIDED COUNTRY

And the Republicans want it dysfunctional in order to get back all the power and complete control of government.

here should be no doubt in anybody’s mind that it has come to this: believers in religious magnanimity against free thinking, democracy loving folks. It is a religious war and it is raging; and as wars always do, they destroy everything in its path…a scorch the earth type of war where if they don’t get their power through the ballot box then they will resort to “2nd amendment options”

The very wealthy and the corporations are just sitting in the side lines just observing and letting it happen because for the most part, getting rid of regulations is their reward and having people fanaticized by their religions makes them a lot more docile so they can be manipulated and follow like sheep obediently whatever those rich folks want them to do or not do.

We were hearing it often during the summer of 2009 “THEY ARE TAKING AWAY MY AMERICA” and it was repeated verbally and through often misspelled signs by Teahadists throughout the country…yes, those very people who don’t have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of were defending the interests of the very rich.

But really, what basically were they saying? Taking away “their” America? as if America was theirs and only theirs, as if the WASPs were the only ones entitled to wealth and power and I think: you assholes, it is everybody’s America.
When talking about that deranged black politician from Florida Allen West, Stan of http://www.understandingstan.net/explains it brilliantly:

We the People” Constitution is only for me, not you!  I don't know if West is an Evangelical Christian, but he spews all the same hate as Evangelicals do in the name of religious freedom and for love of God.

I have three questions for these Evangelicals.   One.  Does our Constitutional right to freedom of religion  only apply to your religion?  Two.  Since when does God take sides?  Three.  Just who do you think you are?”
Then he goes on to make five points I find so very interesting and relevant:
“1.  Neither God, nor the Bible, tells anyone to be un-thinking sheep who do whatever bidding they are told.
Proverbs 14:6  “The hater of authority, searching for wisdom, does not get it; but knowledge comes readily to the open-minded man.“
Jesus didn't command anyone to follow him.  He did speak, and those who listened and agreed with him, followed him.  Those that did not, he did not condemn.  He never asked anyone to hate anyone else for any reason.  He loved everyone, equally, whatever their perceived flaws.

2.  Neither God, nor the Bible, tells anyone to reject government and taxes.
Matthew 22:21 "Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's"
Jesus did not speak out against the government, but asked that we leave governmental laws and rules here on Earth, and obey them.  At the same time, we should consider spiritual things to be sacred and give God what he wants from us.

3.  Neither God, nor the Bible, tells anyone that God wants anything from us but love.
John 13:34  “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, just like I have loved you; that you also love one another.”
Jesus was dismayed by all the squabbling and arguing over the commandments and which was more important and what they should do to get into Heaven.  He told them, pure and simple.  Just love one another.

4.  Neither God, nor the Bible, tells anyone to be narrow minded or to cause harm.
1 Peter 2:15  “For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.”  Jesus was asked many times to lead his people in revolt against the Romans.  His response was always the same.  You have to lead by example and do good.  Violence is not the answer.

5.   Neither God, nor the Bible, tells anyone to pass judgment on anyone else, for any reason.
Romans 14:10  “But you, why do you judge your brother? Or you again, why do you regard your brother with contempt? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God.“
Jesus never asked anyone to judge anyone for any reason.  It was not our business to be judgmental, or to pass a judgment on anyone.  That was God's prerogative, not for man. “

Look, I don’t hold a dear place in my heart for religions in general; however, when it comes to the Jesus business and the passing of judgment on others including the issue of homosexuality I always say “what would Jesus say and do?” Seeing it that Jesus himself never uttered one single word against homosexuality and would certainly condemn today’s Republican’s worship of the almighty dollar, their imposed abuses on the poor and middle class to benefit the rich all in the name of fucking GREED.

I think that Jesus would summarily punish the purveyors of hatred and the merchants of greed like he did with the traders at the temple when he lost his cool; that is the reason I often remind Evangelicals that their spewing of hatred is by far more odious and repugnant to the Creator than the practice of homosexuality which is something the Creator made. For that reason I tell Evangelicals that their spewing of hatred is a one way ticket to hell.
